Accounting Services in Saudi Arabia

Bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax compliance and audit support for companies operating in Saudi Arabia. Motaded assists with ongoing accounting requirements and individual assignments, with the scope of work and fees agreed before the engagement begins.

Accounting and Tax Compliance in Saudi Arabia

Accounting and tax compliance involve distinct responsibilities: maintaining reliable financial records, preparing financial statements and meeting applicable registration, filing and invoicing requirements. The requirements relevant to a business depend on its legal structure, ownership, activities and transactions.

Financial Records and Reporting

Organised accounting records provide the basis for financial reporting, reconciliation and tax preparation. Financial statements are prepared under the applicable reporting framework, including IFRS Accounting Standards endorsed in Saudi Arabia or the endorsed IFRS for SMEs Accounting Standard, as appropriate to the entity.

Zakat and Tax Obligations

ZATCA administers Zakat, corporate income tax, VAT and withholding tax. These obligations do not apply uniformly to every company. Each business should identify the requirements relevant to its circumstances and maintain the records needed for the applicable returns and calculations.

VAT and Electronic Invoicing

Businesses within the scope of VAT requirements must address applicable registration, invoicing and return obligations. Electronic invoicing is governed by ZATCA’s FATOORA requirements, with generation and integration requirements applied according to the relevant rules and implementation phases.

Reporting and Filing Coordination

Financial reporting and tax filing are related but separate processes. A clear schedule for collecting documents, reconciling balances, reviewing reports and preparing returns helps ensure that the information required for each obligation is available.

Accounting Support at Every Stage of Your Business

Accounting requirements evolve as a company begins operations, establishes regular processes and expands its activities. Motaded provides support appropriate to the company’s stage, available records and reporting needs.

  • Newly Established Companies

Establish an organised accounting foundation from the start of operations. Support includes setting up records and reporting processes so that transactions are documented consistently and financial information is available for subsequent accounting and tax work.

  • Operating Companies

Maintain current accounting records and a consistent reporting cycle. Regular support helps management understand the company’s financial position, monitor outstanding balances and prepare the information required for applicable filings.

  • Growing Companies

Adapt accounting processes to increased transaction volumes and more complex operations. Support focuses on reliable reporting, reconciliation and financial information for management review and audit preparation.

Accounting Challenges We Address

Support is available for companies requiring corrections to existing records, continuity during an accounting handover or preparation for reporting and filing obligations.

  • Accounting Records Are Behind

Review outstanding periods, identify missing documents and bring the agreed accounting records up to date.

  • A Change of Accountant or Service Provider

Organise the transfer of available records, opening balances and outstanding matters to support continuity of accounting work.

  • Financial Reports Are Incomplete or Unclear

Review the underlying records and reconciliations to prepare financial reports that provide a clearer view of business performance and financial position.

  • A Tax Filing Deadline Is Approaching

Assess the available information, identify outstanding requirements and prepare the agreed filing. Submission is included where authorised and specified in the engagement.

  • An External Audit Is Being Prepared

Organise accounting schedules and supporting documents, identify gaps in the records and coordinate responses to the appointed auditor’s information requests.

Ongoing Accounting and One-Off Assignments

Accounting support can be arranged as a recurring engagement or a defined assignment. The appropriate format depends on whether the company requires regular accounting operations or completion of a specific task.

Ongoing Accounting Support

For companies requiring consistent maintenance of their accounting records and periodic reporting.

The engagement may include:

  • Recording and classification of business transactions.
  • Bank and account reconciliations.
  • Periodic financial and management reports.
  • Payroll calculations and related accounting entries.
  • Preparation of applicable tax returns, where included.

The agreed schedule defines reporting periods, document submission deadlines and responsibilities. Each cycle concludes with the agreed reports and a record of outstanding matters.

One-Off Assignments

For companies requiring work on a defined accounting period, application or reporting requirement.

Assignments may include:

Each assignment has a defined scope, required inputs, deliverables and completion schedule. The client receives the completed materials and a record of any unresolved items requiring further action.

Accounting Coordination and Progress Updates

A designated Motaded coordinator manages document requests, transaction queries and the reporting schedule. Outstanding information and client actions are tracked throughout the engagement. Draft reports are shared for review and clarification before final delivery, while tasks requiring client approval are identified separately.

Accounting Engagement Process

Each engagement begins with a review of the company’s requirements and available records. The process below applies to ongoing accounting support and individual assignments, with deliverables and responsibilities defined for the selected services.

  1. Assessment of Existing Records

Motaded reviews the company’s activities, accounting period, available records and reporting requirements. The assessment identifies the condition of the records, outstanding information and priorities for the engagement.

  2. Agreement on Scope and Deliverables

The written proposal defines the services, accounting periods, expected deliverables, responsibilities, schedule and fees. For ongoing support, it also establishes the reporting frequency and deadlines for providing documents.

  3. Transfer of Documents and Data

The client provides the relevant accounting records and supporting documents through the agreed transfer method. Where access to existing accounting software is required, permissions are arranged separately. Missing information and opening balances requiring confirmation are recorded for follow-up.

  4. Accounting Work and Review

The team completes the agreed accounting, reconciliation, reporting or tax preparation work. Transaction queries are referred to the client for clarification, and prepared records and reports undergo review before delivery. Filings requiring client approval are submitted where authorised and included in the engagement.

  5. Delivery of Results and Outstanding Actions

The client receives the agreed records, reports or filing documentation, together with any matters requiring further action. For ongoing engagements, the next reporting period and outstanding tasks are confirmed. For individual assignments, the completed work and handover materials are documented.

Documents we may need

  • Company and tax registration details.
  • Existing accounting records and financial statements.
  • Invoices, bank statements and expense records.
  • Depending on the service: payroll records, inventory lists or previous tax returns.

Incomplete records do not preclude a consultation. Outstanding items are confirmed in writing.

Fees and quotation

A quotation may be requested for a one-off assignment or for ongoing bookkeeping support. The quotation states the work ordered and the fee, for agreement before work begins.

The quotation takes into account

  • The volume and period of work.
  • The condition of existing records.
  • The services required.

The quotation includes

  • The agreed work.
  • The expected results.
  • The timeline.
  • The fee.
  • Any separate costs.

Taxes, zakat and any third-party payments are separate from Motaded’s fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help a newly established company?

Yes. We can help organise your accounting setup, design a chart of accounts and establish processes for invoices, expenses and reporting. Tax registration guidance can be included where needed.

Can we engage you for ongoing bookkeeping?

Yes. We can discuss ongoing bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial reporting and related filing support. The frequency and deliverables are agreed in the proposal.

Our records are incomplete or several months behind. Where do we start?

Tell us which periods are affected and share the records you have. We assess the gaps and propose catch-up work, including any dependencies affecting reporting or filing.

Can you take over from our current accountant?

We can review your handover requirements and the available records. This helps establish opening balances, previous filings, outstanding work and responsibilities going forward.

Can we request only one service?

Yes. You can request a specific service, such as an accounts review, VAT return preparation, inventory audit or audit preparation.

Can you help us understand which tax services apply?

We can review your company structure, activities and transactions to identify the relevant work. Applicable requirements should be checked against current ZATCA rules and guidance.

What is the difference between audit preparation and an external audit?

Audit preparation involves organising financial statements, records and supporting schedules. An independent external audit is a separate engagement, and the audit opinion is issued by the appointed licensed auditor. Your proposal will clarify Motaded’s role.

How is the price determined?

Pricing depends on the volume and complexity of the work, the state of your records and the required deliverables. We confirm the scope and fee in writing before work begins.
