Establishing a company in Saudi Arabia isn't an operation on a single platform — it's a sequence of applications passing through different government systems, each with its own statuses and notifications. Tracking your application means knowing which platform displays what, when to expect a notification, and when you must intervene if a response is delayed.
This article details the six platforms you'll deal with in order, the expected statuses in each, and the actual durations between application submission and notification.
Stage 1: Tracking the Ministry of Investment (MISA) Application
The Ministry of Investment platform (misa.gov.sa) is the longest stage by duration. You submit the application, then wait for a detailed technical review before the decision is issued.
Possible Statuses
"Under Review." The application arrived and entered the review queue. This is the first status after submission.
"Request for Additional Documents." The reviewer requested an additional document or clarification. A response must be made within the specified period (usually 5-10 business days) or the application is closed.
"Pending Final Approval." Technical review is complete and awaiting final signature.
"Approved." The license is ready for issuance. An email notification arrives, and you can download the license from the platform.
"Rejected." The application was rejected, usually with the reason mentioned. This requires addressing the reasons and resubmitting.
Expected Duration
The approved duration for MISA application review is 10 business days from the date of submitting a complete application. If delayed, common reasons: incomplete documents, sectoral reviews, or peak submission periods.
Notification Channels
• Registered email on the account
• SMS to the registered mobile
• Notification within the dashboard at misa.gov.sa
For direct inquiry: Official email InvestorCare@misa.gov.sa or calling the main headquarters in Riyadh (Imam Saud bin Abdulaziz Road, Al-Nakheel district, phone 0115065777).
Stage 2: Tracking the Commercial Registration via the Saudi Business Center
After the MISA license is issued, you move to the Saudi Business Center (business.sa) to issue the commercial registration. This stage is usually much faster than MISA — most issuance is automatic after the incorporation contract is signed electronically.
Application statuses on business.sa:
• "Awaiting Founders' Signature" — all founders must sign
• "Awaiting Fee Payment" — signing completed and awaiting payment
• "Under Issuance" — fees paid, registration being created systematically
• "Issued" — the commercial registration is ready for download and use
Approved duration after signing the incorporation contract and paying the fees: CR issuance for a Saudi happens in 180 seconds to 2 business days. For a foreigner after MISA license: usually 2 business days maximum.
Stage 3: Tracking the Chamber of Commerce Subscription
Done through the same business.sa platform. Chamber subscription after CR issuance is usually completed electronically within minutes. The three-year fee exemption makes the procedure straightforward without financial obstacles.
The main status: "Issued" — once the subscription certificate is issued, you can obtain a certificate of origin and benefit from chamber services immediately.
Stage 4: Tracking Tax Registration (ZATCA)
The Zakat and Tax Authority platform (zatca.gov.sa) receives your data automatically from the commercial registration. You don't need to submit a separate application in most cases. Your company appears in the tax system within a few days of CR issuance.
Statuses that should be tracked:
• VAT registration — mandatory for establishments whose sales reach SAR 375,000 annually
• Corporate income tax registration (foreigner 20%) or Zakat (Saudi 2.5%)
• Opening an electronic invoicing file for those who will issue invoices
If your company doesn't appear in ZATCA within a week of CR issuance, contact the Saudi Business Center to verify data transfer completion.
Stage 5: Social Insurance and Qiwa Platform
As with ZATCA, the establishment registration in GOSI (gosi.gov.sa) and Qiwa happens automatically based on commercial registration data. Within a few days of CR issuance, your establishment appears in both platforms.
What remains for you: registering employees manually on the establishment number. This isn't tracking an application — it's a manual procedure you execute when hiring each employee.
Verify your establishment number in both gosi.gov.sa and Qiwa by signing in via the Unified National Single Sign-On. The home page displays the number.
Stage 6: Opening the Bank Account
Tracking the bank account application varies by bank. Generally:
• You submit the account application through the bank's app or branch (electronic stage)
• The bank requests a face-to-face meeting with the General Manager (field stage)
• After the meeting, the account is activated within 1-3 business days
Common bank statuses:
• "Document Verification in Progress" — the bank is studying your application
• "Additional Documents Required" — the bank requested a document not attached
• "Meeting Scheduling" — ready for the field visit
• "Account Activated" — the account is ready for use, its numbers will reach you
If you ask Motaded to manage opening the account on your behalf, we coordinate meeting appointments with banks in advance, so the actual day of opening the account is part of the General Manager's short visit (3-5 days).
A Complete View of the Application Stages
In chronological order, this is what happens after starting setup with Motaded:
Days 1-3: Document preparation and MISA application submission.
Days 4-13: MISA review (10 business days).
Days 14-16: CR issuance through business.sa, chamber subscription.
Days 17-23: Automatic integration with ZATCA, GOSI, Qiwa. General Manager's visit (3-5 days) to issue the residence permit and open the bank account.
Total: about 3-4 weeks from MISA submission to full operation. The approved general framework: 90 days maximum from receiving the original attested documents to bank account activation.
What to Do If Your Application Is Delayed
If the application exceeds the expected duration, the correct steps in order:
1) Check your email and text messages. Much "delay" is actually a request for additional documents that the applicant didn't notice. The electronic notification arrives and is considered the start of the allowed response time.
2) Sign in to the platform and check the status. The dashboard displays the current status and the reasons if there's a stoppage.
3) Contact the competent authority. Each platform has communication channels: misa.gov.sa for MISA, business.sa for CR, gosi.gov.sa for GOSI. Inquire about a specific application by its number.
4) Review with a specialized intermediary. If the bottleneck isn't clear, a quick consultation with Motaded or a similar legal office resolves most cases. A delay in a specific application may be due to a technical detail specialists understand.
Motaded's Role in Tracking
When dealing with Motaded, we handle tracking applications on your behalf:
• Submitting applications on platforms accurately (to reduce the probability of completion requests)
• Daily tracking of each application's status
• Notifying the client of every update (email / WhatsApp)
• Responding to completion requests within 24 hours
• Direct communication with entities when an application is unjustifiably delayed
This tracking includes the first phase (setup) and later phases (renewals, amendments, sectoral licenses) within accounting and administrative compliance services.
The Next Step
Actively tracking your application shortens weeks. Every application that gets intervention when needed reaches the "Issued" stage faster. Book a consultation to learn where you are in the setup path, or review the business setup service page and packages.
Can I track all my applications from one platform?
No. Each government platform belongs to a different entity, and there's no unified dashboard. But most platforms use the Unified National Single Sign-On, so access is fast with one set of credentials. Practical solution: a Bookmarks list including: misa.gov.sa, business.sa, gosi.gov.sa, zatca.gov.sa, balady.gov.sa.
Does a MISA delay mean imminent rejection?
Not necessarily. Delay is usually due to: documents requiring clarification, high application volume in a certain period, or additional sectoral review for your activity. The "Under Review" status with slight delay doesn't mean rejection. The "Request for Completion" status calls for your intervention.
Can I track my application while outside Saudi Arabia?
Yes completely. All platforms operate internationally, and notifications reach your registered email and mobile number. Access condition: a valid Nafath account (for Saudis and residents), or your representative in Saudi Arabia has their own account to track on your behalf.
What do I do if I made an error in the data of one of the applications?
It depends on the application stage. Before approval is issued: you can amend or withdraw the application and resubmit it. After issuance: you need a formal amendment request with fees, possibly requiring additional documents. Safety: arranged verification before submission saves these procedures.
Are inquiries answered by a human employee or an automated system?
Updates on platforms are automatic based on the actual application status. As for inquiries directed via email or phone, you receive a response from a human employee in the competent entity. Expect 1-3 business days for an official response to inquiries.
